Tailoring Training Center to Adolescent Girls In Bekumu, Bamusso Sub Division

Updated: Dec 11, 2024

In 2018, a vocational training program focused on tailoring skills was implemented for 40 adolescent girls, funded by Manos Unidas from Spain. This initiative aimed to enhance employment opportunities for these young women, providing them with essential skills for income generation. The training spanned three months and culminated in an evaluation process, after which participants received government-recognized certificates.

The program's popularity has been particularly pronounced among girls and women who possess basic literacy skills but did not complete high school. Upon completion of the training, the participants successfully secured employment in local boutiques, began their own tailoring enterprises, and some even transitioned into roles as trainers, further empowering others in their communities.

The initiative not only helped uplift the economic status of the participants but also fostered a sense of independence and self-sufficiency. By equipping these adolescent girls with practical skills, the program contributed to their personal development and opened avenues for sustainable livelihoods. This model of vocational training has proven effective in addressing unemployment among young women, reflecting the importance of tailored skill development in fostering economic empowerment and enhancing the overall well-being of the community. Thus, the training program stands as a significant step toward achieving gender equity and promoting sustainable development in the region.
